In lighter, less security-related news, Apple also issued an update to GarageBand. The update is recommended for all users-yes, even you Mac users-so get to updating already.

A quick look at Apple's more-detailed support article on this 7.3.1 update says that this addresses those issues. The security company said that attackers had begun to take advantage of the buffer overflow vulnerability on Windows computers, but that Mac users were still wide open for attack. When digging a bit deeper, it appears as if this update fixes a widely-publicized issue from late last month, originally brought up by Symantec. The QuickTime 7.3.1 update has shown up in Software Update and on Apple's website for Leopard, Tiger, Panther, and Windows users and describes itself as addressing "security issues." Apple released updates to QuickTime and Garageband this afternoon, both of which seem like relatively minor point updates, but one of which could be fairly important.
